Behind The Design | Laurel Crown
One of the earliest sculptural designs we ever created for EH came in the form of a Laurel Crown. This design has become, like all of our sculptural pieces, recognizable symbols easily attributed to our collection. I’ve heard testimony after testimony of women who wear their tangible reminders from EH and when they see them on another women from across the room, they recognize it right away and immediately feel a sisterhood-like tie to them, though they may not know one another. When I hear this, I‘m reminded all the more why we do what we do: reminding women of their identity in Christ as truly loved. Inadvertently, we've created a sisterhood.
When I think of the Laurel Crown, I think of the truth that grounds this symbol and makes it what it is: the one who remains steadfast under trial is blessed. When they stand the test, theirs is the crown of life (James 1:12). As the beloved, we do not chase after perishable crowns, but imperishable ones (1 Cor. 9:25). This tangible reminder is meant to serve to this end – a reminder of things unseen for those who run the race of faith.
Jake and I sat down to record the story and symbolism behind this design on the Made to Last Podcast for season 3, Behind the Design. In this episode you’ll discover the story behind the story, if you will. This “look into our sketchbook” will give you further insight into our artistic process on this particular design. Everything we do is done with the greatest attention to detail, quality and storytelling, all to uphold the inherent beauty of the gospel.
Inspired by the crown of life and the laurel wreath we read about in scripture, this pendant was carved with 40 total leaves specifically chosen for the way the number 40 represents trial and victory throughout scripture.
